Securing the Future through Partnership and Innovation in the English Regions
June 2007 - The English regions have a crucial role to play in securing a more sustainable future for their communities and the UK as a whole. With the support of Defra's Sustainable Development and Innovation Fund, the English regions have undertaken a diverse range of projects which deliver sustainable development. This report celebrates the success of this programme and aims to show the strength and diversity of the projects to enable the sharing of ideas and best practice.

Select Committee Report - Is there a Future for Regional Government?
March 2007 - This is the final report from the Select Committee for Communities and Local Government on the future of regional governance. The inquiry was prompted by the fact that, more than twelve months after the North East referendum, the new direction of the Government's regional policy was still not readily apparent. The Select Committee sought to probe the likely future direction of this policy.

March 2007 - Produced by the Department for Communities and Local Government this is the final report of an evaluation of the roles and impacts of the eight Regional Assemblies in England outside London. The study identifies the collective role and impact of the Regional Assemblies.

Barker Review of Land Use Planning: Final Report - Recommendations
December 2006 - An Independent review commissioned by the Government to look at land use planning, focusing on the link between planning and economic growth. Government has invited reponses to the review to be submitted before 7th March 2007.

The Government Response to the Communities and Local Government Committee's Report on the Planning Gain Supplement
December 2006 - The Parliamentary Select Committee on Communities and Local Government Report on Planning-gain Supplement (PGS) was published on 7 November 2006. The report contained forty-one recommendations regarding the Government's proposals on PGS. This document is the full Government response to the report and its recommendations.

Securing the Regions' Futures (1.9mb)
April 2006 - Launched by Environment Minister Elliot Morley the report sets out the ways in which the Government will strengthen the delivery of sustainable development in the English regions.
The report also responds to the Sustainable Development Commission's review of sustainable development in the English regions and its sixteen recommendations.

The Government Response to the Kate Barker Review of Housing Supply
December 2005 - The Barker Review, commissioned by HM Treasury and the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister was published in March 2004. The Government's response signals its commitment to build more homes for future generations by bringing forward a package of measures to reform the planning system and deliver increased investment in infrastructure to support sustainable housing growth.

Your Region Your Choice 2002
Sets out Government policy on regional governance. Chapter 2 concerns partnership Regional Assemblies. Much of the remainder of this White Paper deals with elected regional assemblies. Following the outcome of the referendum in the North East to establish an elected assembly the Deputy Prime Minister has announced that there will be no further such referendums for the foreseeable future.

DTI National Strategic Reference Framework Consultation
May 2006. This consultation seeks views on the Government's draft National Strategic Reference Framework, which is a requirement of the new EU regulations for the Structural and Cohesion Funds for 2007-2013 and will establish the broad priorities for future Structural Funds Programmes in the UK.

New Planning Policy Statement 3 (PPS3): Housing
February 2006 - The consultation sets national planning policies for housing, which regional planning bodies and local authorities should take into account in developing regional spatial strategies and local development frameworks.

Planning Gain Supplement
February 2006 - This consultation forms part of the Government's response to Kate Barker's review of housing supply. The focus of this paper is how increases in land value created by planning decisions can be released more effectively to help finance the infrastructure needed to stimulate and service growth and ensure that local communities better share in the benefits that growth brings.
